Karen Gallagher is the firm’s Office Administrator. She grew up in the Chicagoland area in Illinois and Indiana and attended Ball State University. Karen later moved to Washington, DC where she began her career in legal administration. Karen has over 20 years' experience in human resources, benefits, staffing, recruiting, and budgeting. She has worked in administration for small boutique firms, an AM Law 50 firm, and several sized in between. She moved often while her children were growing up due to her husband’s career and spent time in Kansas, Ohio, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC.
Karen joined Schwartz & Shaw in March 2021, having moved here from Boston. She and her husband are avid golfers and know the North Carolina winters will better suit their active lifestyle. Karen is a proud mom to her grown boys who live in Nashville and New York and she and her husband are also proudly owned by their chiweenie, Arnold Palmer (aka Arnie).
Cynthia McDade received her A.A. in Legal Secretarial Science from LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, New York. Ms. McDade has over 25 years of legal experience working in some of New York City’s largest and most prestigious law firms as a legal assistant, word processor, and technical trainer.
She joined Schwartz & Shaw in 2015 and is the legal assistant to Richard A. Schwartz, Rebecca M. Williams, and Richard Paschal.
Pamela Brown-Sheba serves as Schwartz & Shaw’s Assistant Office Manager. Prior to joining the firm in February of 2020, Pamela spent 18 years working as an Administrative Assistant for the Detective Bureau in the Wayne, New Jersey Police Department. Prior to that, she worked for numerous years at the Public Defender’s Office as a Legal Secretary for the Juvenile Department, as well as an Administrative Court Clerk for Superior Court. She loves volunteering her time and getting involved with various charities, including Community Policing, RAD (Rape Aggression Defense), and Special Olympics. She moved to Raleigh from Clifton, New Jersey to be closer to family and enjoys spending time with loved ones. She is the proud mother of two sons, Mazi and Adeem.
Sophie Bean graduated from North Carolina State University in May of 2019 where she received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration. Sophie was eager to start a career in Raleigh after she graduated. She joined the Schwartz & Shaw team in June of 2019. She is now the Legal Administrative Assistant to Laura Crumpler, Grace Sykes, and Karen Gallagher.
In her free time, Sophie enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, exploring the great outdoors, and, of course, cheering the Wolfpack to victory.
Betsy West received both her BA (English) and MEd (Counselor Education) degrees from NC State University where she was also a Caldwell Fellow. She worked in the NC Department of Public Instruction for 27 years, serving in multiple roles, including Assistant Personnel Director and Consultant to the Director of DOI Operations. Following her work in DPI, she then served the NC State Board of Education for 17 years, ending her service to the Board as the Executive Director for Policy and Operations. Following a brief retirement, Betsy joined Schwartz and Shaw in July 2020 where she serves as the Legal Administrative Assistant to Brian Shaw, Katie Cornetto, and Brandon McPherson.
Shannon Davis joined the Schwartz & Shaw team in April, 2018. Shannon is originally from Maryland and moved to North Carolina 4 years ago. She is the Legal Administrative Assistant to Rachel Hitch, Rachel Nicholas, and Dr. Amy Clay.
Ms. Davis has an extensive work history in different areas of litigation, some of which include insurance defense, personal injury, and worker’s compensation. In Shannon’s free time, she enjoys working out, traveling with her husband, and spending time with her 2 kitties, Mocha & Riley.
Taraza N. Tyler
Taraza N. Tyler received her B.S. in Criminal Justice from North Carolina Central University in 2010, where she graduated with honors. She joined Schwartz & Shaw in the Summer of 2017, where she serves as the Billing Coordinator and Social Media Marketing Assistant.
Taraza is a Duplin County Native. She is a proud mother of her daughter, a diehard NCCU Eagle Fan, and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
